Obama’s Senate Vote Today, Hillary Skips off To Texas

YEA or NAY?

Barack Obama took time out of his busy schedule (and most likely the biggest race of his life) to do what’s right for the American people. He was present in Senate today to vote for an amendment which would prevent retroactive immunity to companies that allegedly cooperated with the President’s illegal NSA wiretapping program. E.g. wiretapping of American citizens without a warrant.

Read about the NSA warrantless surveillance controversy here.

All senators were present today, except two. One of whom was Senator Hillary Clinton. She felt it was more important to be in Texas Virginia preparing for an election that is 3 weeks away.

  • Obama voted FOR the amendment, although ultimately it did not pass.

See Senate.gov page here.

Senator Feingold’s statement from the Senate floor.

  • UPDATE. CNN Posted an article later todayApparently John McCain also made it to the Senate today.
  • A spokesman for Sen. Clinton later said she was “unable to vote” but strongly opposes the legislation which is backed by the Bush administration.
  • It seems Hillary was only next door in Virginia – “she spent much of the day at her campaign headquarters in nearby suburban Virginia where she conducted satellite interviews with journalists in Texas and Ohio, two critical upcoming primary states.”
